IMPROVING THE SYSTEM

Updated: Dec 30, 2025

Why Bands?

London Parkour Project has been developing its training/mentoring system for nearly twenty years now. The company was started in 2010, but I started parkour in 2006. Back then, I spent many years training with others in the parkour community and learning all I could about parkour. But before then I had a martial arts background. I even have a Black-Belt in Kung Fu.

I have debated how to best highlight milestones and skill levels within my parkour classes/ community. Belts seemed like a strange idea, but they work well in martial arts. However, coloured bands seem like a great option.

Coloured bands will help us identify students' skill levels in classes. They should also be a great accessory to any outfit.

Currently, we have a grading system with numbered ranks:

Rank 0: White

Rank 1: Yellow

Rank 2: Green

Rank 3: Blue

Rank 4: Brown

Rank 5: Black

S-Rank: Red
