THE GRADING SYSTEM: BREAKDOWN
First half of term At the start of the term it is important that the students learn to listen to the coach and focus on what is being taught. They are told that after half term the coach will not be explaining the moves anymore and will just expect them to know after 6-8 weeks of repetition. Moves are slowly introduced week by week, and each move is repeated at least 3 times over 3 different weeks. Half term break Students get a chance to rest. Which is good for both the bo

CLUB OR ACADEMY?
I tend to find that people are unaware that there are different ways to train and each way has its own culture. First of all, there tend to be two types of activities that people do after school. One of which we do and one of which we do not. The first is a club and the other is an academy. So what s the difference? A club is a place where people go to socialise. The main aim is to have fun and make friends, but learning new skills is not a focus. There might be someone who

IMPROVING THE SYSTEM
Why Bands? London Parkour Project has been developing its training/mentoring system for nearly twenty years now. The company was started in 2010, but I started parkour in 2006. Back then, I spent many years training with others in the parkour community and learning all I could about parkour. But before then I had a martial arts background. I even have a Black-Belt in Kung Fu. I have debated how to best highlight milestones and skill levels within my parkour classes/ commu

WHAT IS ANTI-FRAGILE?
A quick search on Wikipedia would give us this answer. "Anti-fragility is a property of systems in which they increase in capability to thrive as a result of stressors, shocks, volatility, noise, mistakes, faults, attacks, or failures. The concept was developed by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his book, Anti-fragile, and in technical papers." I first heard the concept when I was watching a video on Robert Kiyosaki. He basically compared it to the con cepts of fragile and to

THERE IS ALWAYS MORE
What is the value of formal systematic training. So I speak to a lot of parkourist who never had any formal training. They say, “you don’t need all that stuff to do parkour” meaning, indoor classes, quadrupedal movement, weightlifting, gradings etc. I myself started training parkour on the streets so I know that you don’t need to do parkour. But there is more to life than jumping. I find that a lot of the super skilled parkourist have amazing abilities but everything else

CULTURE GOES BOTH WAYS
So in our classes we do have a specific culture. To me it is not unusual, but I find that it is for some. I do hold students to a high standard, they do have to wear uniforms, bands and put in 100% when doing conditioning. If they talk negatively about themselves, like “It’s impossible” or “I can’t do it” I will pull them up on it. If we said we would do 100 squats then that Is what we are going to do… The aim is to build positive habits and a culture in the classes that

THE INNER PATH – A SYSTEM OF DISCIPLINE
Forgive me—the marketing guy says I need to name my training system… so I called it The Inner Path . Let me try to explain at least part of it here. Origins of the Inner Path The Inner Path is a custom-developed system created by Ovando Carter . It is the culmination of decades of learning, practice, and lived experience. As of 2026, Ovando has trained more than 3,000 students and worked across 20+ schools and universities . His experience spans parkour-based physical educat

WEIGHT LIFTING IS NOT JUST FOR BODY BUILDERS
More recently, I have been adding weight lifting into my regular parkour classes. When I was younger, I never thought about the gym much or lifting weights. Sure, I would do it a bit if one of my friends was really into it, but I never saw the point. But now I am older, and I have trained so many people, I see its benefits. ✅Many people do not move their bodies anymore, so their muscles have atrophied. This is true for those who work in the office, but also for children t

WHY DO WE WEAR UNIFORMS?
So in most parkour schools and academies they do not wear uniforms at all. So why do we? 🤔 One of the main things that we focus on in London Parkour Project is developing the character of the students that we teach. We believe building a strong character with positive qualities is a key thing for any community. 😎 So why uniforms… Well, if you want to learn to juggle then you don’t start with 20 balls, you don’t even start with 3. Start with something easy, maybe 2 or even o
