More recently, I have been adding weight lifting into my regular parkour classes. When I was younger, I never thought about the gym much or lifting weights.
Sure, I would do it a bit if one of my friends was really into it, but I never saw the point. But now I am older, and I have trained so many people, I see its benefits.
✅Many people do not move their bodies anymore, so their muscles have atrophied. This is true for those who work in the office, but also for children these days who don't play outside as much.

✅ You may have great technical ability, but without weights, you can easily hit a plateau.
✅ Lifting weights helps to maintain healthy bones and muscles into old age. So if you want to maintain mobility and autonomy in the later years, lifting weights is very good for you.
Now in both of our adult parkour classes and child parkour classes we include at least 10 mins of weight lifting.

Adult Classes
Why not work on general fitness and an athletic build. We do have body weight as part of the regular conditioning, but lifting also has its place.
Many adults have been out of fitness and training for a long time. Sitting at a desk all day or getting lost in all of lifes responsibilities. If going to the gym is a little boring but you would still like to train like an athlete then you can within our dedicated parkour classes.

Children's Classes
As part of the mind set training we aim to make the idea and practice of training as normal in the minds of the child as brushing your teeth or taking a shower.
Even if the weights are low, the students get into the habit of doing a bench press. So when they are older, this will seem as natural as walking. In fact, not working out will feel abnormal.

Children these days use their bodies so little that their muscles begin to atrophy. Using low weights helps to stimulate the muscle groups needed for parkour, as well as give them a better understanding of their body.
Weights take up a small part of any class, either adult or child, and children seem to really enjoy it too.
