WHY DO WE WEAR UNIFORMS?

Updated: Jan 8

So in most parkour schools and academies they do not wear uniforms at all. So why do we? 🤔

One of the main things that we focus on in London Parkour Project is developing the character of the students that we teach. We believe building a strong character with positive qualities is a key thing for any community. 😎

So why uniforms…

Well, if you want to learn to juggle then you don’t start with 20 balls, you don’t even start with 3. Start with something easy, maybe 2 or even one. If you try with too many balls you are likely to drop them all. Start with one and YOU CAN CATCH IT.

Juggling, but we are hear to talk about parkour…. I think you are off topic.

Not really, its just a great analogy 😉. For a child, to be able to remember simply to bring a t-shirt to class once a week is an easy thing to remember. 🏫

It promotes the ability to prepare for the class, remember something that they have to do week by week. It is a tangible object that the children have PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY OVER…

It is something we can clearly see if you have remembered or not, it is something that the group (the community) can see if you have remembered or not.

Believe me, the rest of the class will pull the children up on it if they do not bring it, and the children do take it very seriously. If there is anything any child cares about, it is the opinion of the other children in the class.

Implementing uniforms trains the children in a secret and subtle way to be

✅ Personally responsible

✅ prepared for class

✅ improve their memory

The other thing some parents say is… well my child is only 6 why it is my responsibility to wash their cloths.

Well at London Parkour Project we believe in building a culture in which the child is personality responsible. That culture extends to all things, uniform, behaviour in class, personal training before grading. 🏛️

And my question would be, if not at 4 or 6 then when should we start to encourage children to be personality responsible. Some might say that when the child is 16 years old they should know better by now… but how could they if they were never told. 😲

More over, from age 6 – 16 they have had 10 years of building a habit of not being responsible, they believe that this is just the way they are and is part of their identify. If that is true, if you try to correct them then they will feel as if you are personally attacking them rather than saying that a particular behaviour they are demonstrating is not correct.

So we believe in building strong children with strong character, and we believe that if you catch them young enough anything is possible.
